Camulodunum (today’s Colchester)
Dio writes that after arriving in Britain Claudius defeated the Britons and took Camulodunum, the capital of Cunobelinus (60. 21).

Dio writes that after arriving in Britain Claudius defeated the Britons and took Camulodunum, the capital of Cunobelinus (60.21). Suetonius speaks of the surrender of part of the island without a fight (Claudius 17). Camulodunum lies on the site of today’s Colchester in England. Around AD 49 a colony of veterans was founded here and a temple of Claudius built, and in AD 60 or 61 the city was burned by Boudica’s forces (Tacitus, Annals 14.31).
