Arminius (d. AD 21)
Dio calls him Armenius and describes him as a regular at Varus’s table who, together with Segimer, led the conspiracy and the war (56. 19).

Dio calls him Armenius and describes him as a regular at Varus’s table who, together with Segimer, led the conspiracy and the war (56.19). He lured the Roman army into the forest, where the legions were destroyed (56.20–22). He came from the tribe of the Cherusci and had earlier served in the Roman army, where he received citizenship and equestrian rank. According to Tacitus he was killed in AD 21 by his own kinsmen, at the age of thirty-seven (Annals 2.88).
