Caesarion (b. c. 47 BC)

Cleopatra and Caesarion, relief in the temple of Hathor at Dendera

Plutarch writes that soon after Caesar left Egypt, Cleopatra bore a son, whom the Alexandrians called Caesarion. Suetonius adds that Antony claimed in the Senate that Caesar had acknowledged the boy as his son, and that Caesar’s friend Oppius wrote a book to prove this untrue.

The sources do not settle the dispute over paternity.
