Revolt of Antonius Saturninus (early AD 89)

Lucius Antonius (known to scholars as Saturninus), governor of Upper Germany, rebelled against Domitian. Suetonius writes that in the hour of battle the ice on the Rhine suddenly broke up and the Germans could not cross to help. Lucius Maximus, who crushed the revolt, burned the rebel’s papers so that no one could use them against others. Domitian afterward forbade keeping two legions in one camp.
