Triumph of the Flavians (AD 71)

The triumph of Titus and Vespasian: painting by Giulio Romano, 1537 (Louvre)

The Senate granted father and son separate triumphs, and they held one. Carried in the procession were gold, towering stages with scenes of the war and spoils from the Temple: the table, the lampstand and the book of the Law. Domitian rode alongside on horseback. The leader of the defenders, Simon bar Giora, was executed on the day of the triumph. The spoils are depicted in the relief on the arch erected later by the Forum.
