Transcript

Rome, the eve of the races at the circus.

Soldiers patrol the streets, keeping the city quiet.

No one may wake the emperor’s favorite horse.

He has a marble stable and a manger of ivory.

According to Suetonius, purple blankets cover him.

He wears a necklace of precious stones.

He has his own house, slaves and furniture.

Reportedly he invites him to dinner.

And serves him golden barley.

He even drinks to his health.

People whisper that for the emperor it is still not enough.
