Rome
Rome is the capital where most of the stories in the course take place. Here Caesar died (44 BC), here Augustus “left marble,” and here in July AD 64 the fire broke out. According to Benario it began at the Circus Maximus, lasted almost a week and consumed 10 of the 14 districts (3 of them completely). After the fire Nero built the Golden House.
