Claudia Acte (1st century AD)

Portrait of a young woman with a gilded wreath (Fayum portrait, 2nd century AD)

Claudia Acte (1st century AD): a freedwoman, Nero’s first love.

She wants Nero, not power; she will stay by him to the end. Acte was a slave, then a freedwoman. Her relationship with Nero in AD 55 caused a conflict between the emperor and his mother Agrippina. After Nero’s death in AD 68, Acte, together with his nurses, buried his ashes in the tomb of the Domitii family.
