Roman Forum

Ruins of the Roman Forum, painting

The Roman Forum was the center of Rome. After the Ides of March the Romans began to worship Caesar. During the games in his honor a comet shone. It was taken for Caesar’s soul received into heaven. His temple later stood on the Forum. By the Forum stood the Curia, where the Senate met, and the Rostra, the platform from which the people were addressed. On the Forum Caesar’s body was burned, and on that spot the temple of the Divine Julius later stood. On January 15, AD 69, the emperor Galba was killed here by the Lacus Curtius.
