Theatre of Pompey (March 15, 44 BC)

The Theatre of Pompey in Rome had an adjoining hall in which the Senate met when the Forum was occupied. On March 15, 44 BC, Caesar was killed in it. He fell at the foot of Pompey’s statue.
The Senate later decided to wall up the hall and to call the Ides of March the Day of Parricide (Suetonius). Pompey built the theater in 55 BC as the first stone theater in Rome. Remains of the hall were discovered in the 20th century in the area of Largo Argentina.
