Conquest of Britain (AD 43)

In AD 43 Claudius set out for Britain. Dio describes a battle and the capture of Camulodunum (60.21), Suetonius the surrender of part of the island without a fight (Claudius 17). The emperor returned to Rome after six months, and the Senate granted him and his son the title Britannicus (Dio 60.22). The expedition was commanded by Aulus Plautius with four legions, and Claudius joined him at the end, with elephants (Dio 60.21).
