Agrippa Postumus (grandson of Augustus, d. AD 14)

Bust of Agrippa Postumus, marble, Capitoline Museums

Agrippa Postumus was the third son of Agrippa and Julia. Augustus adopted him in AD 4 together with Tiberius, but soon broke with him because, as Suetonius writes, he had base tastes and a violent character, and sent him away to Surrentum (Augustus 65). According to Tacitus he ended up on the island of Planasia (Annals 1.3).

He was killed after Augustus’s death. Tacitus writes that it is not known whether Tiberius or Livia gave the order (Annals 1.6).
