Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus (c. 2 BC–AD 40)

Census frieze from the Altar of Domitius Ahenobarbus (c. 2nd/1st century BC)

Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus (c. 2 BC–AD 40): Nero’s father, an aristocrat of ill repute.

He wants nothing but his own comfort; of his son he says that nothing good will come of him. He was consul in AD 32, a grandson of Antony through his mother, and the husband of Agrippina the Younger. He died in AD 40, when Nero was a few years old. According to Suetonius, at the birth of his son he said that nothing good could be born of him and Agrippina.
