Lucius Vitellius (three times consul (once under Tiberius, twice with Claudius))

Suetonius writes that he was the first to worship Caligula as a god and wore Messalina’s sandal under his toga. In the Senate he persuaded the senators that Claudius could marry his niece, Agrippina the Younger. He was also censor and governor of Syria. The Senate honored him with a statue bearing an inscription about his unshakable loyalty to the emperor.
His son Aulus became emperor in AD 69.
