Marcus Aemilius Lepidus (triumvir from 43 BC)

Lepidus was the third triumvir beside Antony and Octavian. According to Plutarch, while the list of the condemned was being drawn up he was allowed to have his brother Paulus killed, though some say he handed him over to Antony and Octavian, who demanded his death (Antony 19). According to Appian, Lepidus began the proscriptions, and his brother Paulus was first on the list (Civil Wars 4).
After Philippi, Lepidus did not receive the share he was due, but Octavian gave him Africa in exchange (Appian, Civil Wars 5).
