Tarsus

In 41 BC at Tarsus Cleopatra met Antony. Plutarch describes a gilded barge with purple sails, but Appian presents the meeting differently: as the conversation of a stateswoman enumerating her services. Tarsus in Cilicia was an important city of Asia Minor, the hometown of the apostle Paul. After the meeting Antony followed Cleopatra to Alexandria and spent the winter of 41/40 BC there.
